Mental Health Services
The roots of Minnesota's mental health system can be found in the institutional reforms of the late 1940s and early 1950s under the leadership of Governor Luther Youngdahl. Governor Youngdahl was widely recognized as a reformer who championed more humane treatment of people with severe mental illnesses. While the current system is far from perfect, we continue to make progress in addressing the needs of the people in our communities who live with mental illness.
Community Involvement Programs provides a range of mental health services to adults. Our services are designed to promote wellness and recovery, with an emphasis on psychiatric rehabilitation. Psychiatric rehabilitation focuses on using a person’s strengths to develop coping strategies to address challenges in problem solving, social interactions, and daily living. Each individual works with a team to develop a support plan and identify services that will address individual needs. Community Involvement Programs provides the following services and supports:
- Supportive Housing
- Adult Foster Care
- ARMHS (Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services)
- ILS (Independent Living Skills)
- Home Health Services
- Clinical Services
